IMU CET exam pattern and how we prepare you
IMU CET is a computer-based test of 200 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours. Each correct answer gets one mark and each wrong answer loses a quarter mark, so accuracy matters as much as speed.
Physics and Mathematics carry half the paper, and English is the next biggest section. Our timetable gives these three the most class time, while chemistry, aptitude and general knowledge are covered through short daily practice.

We have two classroom centres: First Floor, Capitol Tower, 17 New Survey Road, Survey Chowk, Dehradun, and Second Floor, above LG Showroom, Red Square Market, Hisar, Haryana. Students from other cities can join our online batches.
Which Merchant Navy course can I join after Class 10 or Class 12?
After Class 10 the main route is GP Rating. After Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths you can take IMU CET for DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science or B.Tech Marine Engineering. Engineering graduates can look at GME (mechanical) or ETO (electrical and electronics).
What is the IMU CET exam pattern?
In the recent pattern, IMU CET is a 3-hour computer-based test with 200 multiple-choice questions: Physics 50, Mathematics 50, English 40, Chemistry 20, General Aptitude 20 and General Knowledge 20. A correct answer gets 1 mark and a wrong answer loses 0.25 marks. Check the official IMU notification each year for changes.
Do you prepare students for company sponsorship tests and interviews?
Yes. Our sponsorship programme covers shipping company written tests, psychometric tests, group discussion and personal interview practice, along with guidance on DG Shipping medical standards.
Can girls join the Merchant Navy?
Yes. Women can join through the same routes as men, including IMU CET courses, DNS and GP Rating, as long as they meet the education and medical requirements.
Is colour blindness or weak eyesight a problem?
Colour blindness usually rules a candidate out of deck and engine careers, and each course has its own eyesight standard. We recommend a medical check before you start preparing. You can also use our medical fitness calculator.
